The Power of a Morning Ritual

The Power of a Morning Ritual

The first hour of the day has a profound influence on the rest of the day. A daily morning ritual is particularly powerful because it sets us up to feel good and move through the day with ease. Life can get busy and if we don't make time to care for ourselves first thing in the morning, it is likely that other obligations will take precedence.

A consistent morning ritual has made waves in the quality of my own life. After becoming a mom, I found that time to myself was both harder to come by and more essential to my sanity than ever before. In an attempt to center myself, I began to wake up an hour earlier every morning. Now my son is four and this hour to myself is a sacred and eagerly anticipated part of my day.

During this time I meditate, move through a yoga sequence, and depending on how much time I have before my son comes barreling downstairs, I will sometimes journal or read an inspiring book to prime myself for the day to come.

This morning ritual has radically transformed my life. Rather than waiting to feel good, I am setting myself up to feel good. When I prioritize my health and wellbeing, I am filling my cup and in a better position to give to those around me.

There is no better investment than an investment in ourselves. It is unlikely that we will come to regret setting aside time to tend to our state of wellbeing. Happiness carries different meanings depending upon the individual. Some of us find pleasure in the warm simplicity of drinking a cup of tea, while others relish in the buzz of a morning workout. Individual preferences placed aside, why not take the time to find your happy before the rest of the world wakes up?
